About Anitra
Anitra Alexander is an independent piano teacher, and has recently moved to Citrus Heights, California, which is a suburb of Sacramento. She gives private lessons to children and adults, ages 5 to 75, and offers group lessons at several area preschools.
Anitra earned her BA in Piano Performance at California State University, Sacramento. She joined the TOP (Teaching Outstanding Performers) faculty at University of Alabama at Birmingham in 1984, teaching piano and music theory to elementary and high school students. In 1992, Anitra left UAB to focus on her private studio. Over the years, her students have excelled in many areas, receiving awards in local festivals and competitions, winning awards in composition, being accepted to prestigous summer programs including the program at Eastman School of Music, and continuing their music studies in college. She is proud of her high student retention rate; there were six high school seniors in her 2008-2009 class.
In addition to her private lessons, Anitra has taught preschool and elementary music at various schools in Birmingham, Alabama including Canterbury United Methodist Mother's Day Out, N.E. Miles Jewish Day School and Spring Valley School. She has directed the Children's Choirs at South Highland Presbyterian Church. She was recently music teacher at Independent Presbyterian Church Day School and South Highland Presbyterian Child Development Center.
Anitra is an active member of the Placer Branch of Music Teachers Association of California.
